Ell learners in the classroom

I want to begin by asking for advice on how to modify a unit I am beginning to better address the needs of my ELL learners. It is a unit on the state of Georgia. I want to teach my students the symbols and important people/events in the state of Georgia. I have a blank map of Georgia and pictures of them on a bulletin board outside my classroom. For the past week during ESOL time, I talked about our state flower, tree, and flag. The students colored pictures of each symbol and I chose "the best one" to hang beside their picture on the bulletin board. I want to take a picture of President Carter and put a string from his picture to where in GA he is from. Learning about Georgia is a state standard for kindergarten, and learning the state symbols is a standard in first grade.
